dora akunyili book project

Her work continues

Dora Akunyili

In addition to championing the cause of empowering women across Africa through She ROARs , I am also working on a book about a special woman my mother who ROARed and whose roar still rings in our hearts.

Do please share your Dora story below and how her roar inspired yours.

I was seated on my couch on a January evening in Geneva. Lost in the maze of scribbling thoughts when a whisper of inspiration floated through to share the story of my mother. In hearing this message, I felt a surge of inspiration at the possibility to explore the many faces of the Amazon that was Dora Nkem Akunyili — the child, the mother, the wife, the entrepreneur, the philanthropist, the scientist, the pharmacist, the zealot, the change-maker, the game-changer, the politician, the nationalist,  and the patient, frail and weak from the cancer that eventually killed her.

Over the next months the idea grew, and I with it. I left my job at the World Economic Forum in pursuit of this calling to bring this larger-than-life story of Dora to life, convinced by the power of stories, not least of all that of a strong female African Leader and a mother to so many.

This book project is a continuation of her contributions. Every word is guided.

Join me to help tell the story of D.N. Akunyili.

“A society grows great, when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” DNA

She was neither old, nor a man, but we know that she has planted a big tree, which shades a nation.
